This is a really good expression of why I find apps like Yuka or Oasis to be deeply misguided at a fundamental level. I’m working on a squid jerky product and it often gets dinged for having high sodium. But, in terms of a shelf-stable intermediate moisture food like a jerky, if you don’t use salt you’re using something else more offensive — which is why most jerkies have a lot of salt! It’s not meant to be an everyday staple, but an on the go snack when you need nonperishable protein. The context is everything.
The net effect is not only not being measured —so is not even approaching known— it is actively hid away behind color of law & weasel-wriggles like “intent & context.”

And it is snake oil poisoning.
That the money is counterfeit doubles, at least, the toxic thickening, coarsening, faux food fight.
And the patrons of the takeaway-close restaurants are not the honest wo/men that can’t be cheated by the chefs who cheat them.
Restaurant food is unhealthy, whatever the sell the sizzle not the steak vibe.
Sizzle-vibeaters, Michelin-starred or ultra-processed slop in a Target sale-cup, are unhealthy.
Appetite disordered.
The genpop proves the point upon even just the most cursory visual glance, or moving among them out in the world.
There is no middle grounding that isn’t middling attempt to MSG-salt rationalization in service to continuation of the slip-sliding away.
Everybody’s in the army “now” & the less attention soldiers pay the lower down the General Issue GI tract they are put, & put themselves, in the gobbling machine.

In the modern, rich world, there’s headroom for good to be emotion. First, food is sustenance. I think one can consider those matters separately and ask the first question first - is sustenance is poison, it’s not sustenance. The challenge is not whether to apply logic but that we don’t know the physiological answer. Unless one gets into the uncertain ground of whether what we think about food affects whether it harms us or not…
But I think in general, we can run all sorts of fun debates while the answer to what is best to eat being damn obvious (à la Michael Pollan) and it being risky to give big food better arguments to support their highly processed products.
